ALS Group is one of the world’s largest and most diversified testing services providers. We thrive in a results oriented production environment. In this unique Human Resources Business Partner role, we are seeking a dynamic individual to join our innovative HR team.

As a Human Resources Business Partner, you will be the main point of contact for all Human Resource support for your client groups. Your main focus will be Recruitment, Employee Relations, Performance Management, Compensation, Organizational and Leadership Development.

Responsibilities

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Corporate Human Resource team to determine HR strategy and strategic initiatives;

  • Provide human resource advice and consultation to employees and management;
  • Coach and counsel employees and management in the area of employment law, performance management, conflict management and resolution in accordance with company policies;
  • Work with local management to develop and maintain a culture of open and honest dialogue;
  • Manage the recruitment process for the locations and assist with recruiting at other branches when necessary;
  • Participate in creating and delivering corporate training on policies and procedures in the areas of staffing, compliance, employee relations and recruitment & selection;
  • Proactively identify HR related training/knowledge needs of client groups and deliver training accordingly;
  • Ensure compliance with provincial and federal laws and regulations relating to employment standards, human rights, privacy legislation and employment equity;
  • Investigate and resolve employee complaints and concerns;
  • Advise and educate employees regarding company programs, benefits and policies;
  • Assist in organizing employee events, employee communications and HR intranet content;
  • Ensure that all Human Resource forms, policies, procedures and manuals etc. are up-to-date;
  • Perform exit interviews and track results;
  • Travel as required in order to provide HR support to the ALS laboratories in Western Canada;
  • Assist with other Human Resource projects when necessary;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit for up 8 hours per day;

  • Ability to use and view a computer screen for up to 8 hours per day;
  • Ability to communicate via telephone and e-mail without assistance;
  • Ability to travel without assistance.

 

About You:

 

The ideal candidate would have:

  • Completion of a university degree and/or college level Human Resources Management program or equivalent is required;

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in Human Resources in a Generalist/Business Partner capacity;
  • Experience working with unions or in unionized environment an asset;
  • CHRP or working towards CHRP designation preferred.

You would also be:

  • Maintain a high level of expertise on employment standards for all provinces, common law decisions affecting employment and Human Rights, privacy laws, employment equity and other areas of the law pertaining to employment;
  • Have the ability to handle highly confidential information;
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of company philosophies, policies, procedures, programs and initiatives;
  • Have strong organizational skills and follow-through on commitments and deadlines;
  • Convey a positive and professional image at all times;
  • Have the ability to speak in public and present information to groups;
  • Possess tact, superior communication skills, ability to work effectively with fellow team members and vendors;
  • Have the ability to work independently, be self-motivated and be able to prioritize workload;
  • Possess superior computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio;
  • Demonstrate judgement, creativity, integrity and ability to problem solve;
  • Have the ability to effectively handle escalations and time critical issues;
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
