Location: ALS Metallurgy, Kamloops

Reports to: Manager, Mineralogy

Position Type: Contract (12months)

About the Position: Perform technical jobs in Mineralogy Laboratory. Tasks may include sample mount preparation, operating scanning electron microscope (SEM), optical mineral assessment using microscope, data entry and analysis.

Responsibilities

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of samples for various analysis methods in the Mineralogy lab;
  • Perform data entry and evaluate data using MS Excel and instrument specific software;
  • Identify & correct QC related problems by ensuring the quality of the mineralogy data meets ALS standards;
  • Organize and track samples in the laboratory, arrange sample transfers between other laboratory divisions;
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;

  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Manager.

Qualifications


Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit and/or stand for 8 hours per day;

  • Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks;

  • Able to lift filled 20 litre containers (45lb).

  • Ability to stand for up to a full shift;
  • Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities 

 

About You:

 

The ideal candidate would have:

  • Recognized Diploma or Degree in Sciences required;
     

You would also be:

  • Analytical and mechanical skills;
  • Ability to visually distinguish colours
  • Quality focused individual;
  • Organized, highly motivated, detail oriented and able to work independently or as part of a team;
  • Ability to effectively handle a high volume of work and time critical issues;
  • Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal);
  • Basic MS Office skills, specifically MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
