    Location: ALS Environmental, Burnaby

    Reports to: Supervisor or Team Lead

    Position Type: Casual

    About the Position: The Laboratory Assistant will work independently and as part of a team to accomplish a variety of lab tasks and lab maintenance.


    Specific Responsibilities:

    • Prepare, clean and maintain laboratory equipment including glassware and labware;

    • Organize and restock laboratory supplies such as consumables;
    • Maintain inventory of laboratory equipment;
    • Organize and maintain supplies in the lunchroom;
    • Responsible for general laboratory clean-up and maintenance;

    • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;

    • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;

    • Other duties as assigned.


    Physical Demands:

    • Able to lift 30 lbs and carry for short distances;

    • Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
    • You may be exposed to unpleasant fumes;

    • Ability to stand for up to a full shift;
    • Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;
    • Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.


    About You:


    The ideal candidate would have:

    • High School graduation required with some chemistry preferred;

    • Some lab experience an asset.

    You would also be:

    • Very organized with proven ability to work to deadlines;
    • Detail-oriented;
    • Able to work independently and as part of a team;
    • Good English communication skills (written and verbal);
    • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office.
