    Location: ALS Environmental, Fort St. John

    Reports to: Client Services Supervisor

    Position Type: Casual Part-Time

    About the Position: The General Assistant is responsible for helping to organize and maintain and service centre and warehouse that receives and ships environmental samples. This position entails working alongside the Client Services Supervisor and staff with an emphasis on providing quality and efficient customer service. This position performs various duties in the shipping/receiving (S/R) department, general logistics and maintenance.


    Specific Responsibilities:

    • Move equipment, stock, and supplies;

    • Pick, prepare and fill bottle order requests from from LIMS;

    • Print labels, pre-label bottles for client orders, arrange in bags by set;

    • Pack bottle orders in coolers, prepare for client pick-up;

    • Receive orders from clients and couriers;

    • Open, close and secure warehouse and facility;

    • Fill inventory control of sample bottles and general lab and shipping supplies;

    • Use individual couriers’ shipping systems;

    • Help clients that come to the door;

    • Clean coolers;

    • Clean and prepare sample containers;

    • Sample archiving and waste disposal;

    • Maintain and clean workspaces and facility including garbage removal.

    • Administrative tasks for record-keeping purposes such as invoice and waybill management and client paperwork organization

    • Some pickups, deliveries and errands, supply purchases, may be required (with valid Class 5 driver’s license, operating company vehicle);

    • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;

    • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
    • Other duties as assigned.


    Physical Demands:

    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs./23 kg on a regular basis and carry for short distances;

    • Extensive walking or movement, bending, and kneeling for a full shift;

    • Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;

    • Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required.

    • Ability to stand for up to a full shift;

    • Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;

    • You may be exposed to unpleasant fumes;

    • You may be required to work on some evenings and weekends;


    About You:


    The ideal candidate would have:

    • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required;

    • Customer service experience is an asset;

    • Experience working in a warehouse, shipping/receiving, or fast-paced environment is an asset;

    • Valid Provincial Class 5 driver’s license with clean driving history (abstract required) is an asset;

    • Knowledge from high school science courses and of basic lab safety is an asset.

    You would also have:

    • Commitment to excellence and a client-focused attitude;
    • Intermediate English communication skills (auditory, verbal, writing, and reading);
    • Strong work ethic and willingness to take on varied tasks;
    • Basic user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and confident with computers;
    • Ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately in a fast-paced environment;
    • Ability to be organized, with proven ability to meet strict deadlines
    • Ability to work as part of a small team in a larger network, and independently as required.
