    Location: ALS Environmental, Waterloo

    Reports to: Laboratory Manager

    Position Type: Full Time

    Classification: AN2-AN3   $20.27- $21.79               Shift: Day Shift

    About the Position: This position will work with the ALS team to ensure a safe workplace for employees, contractors and visitors, and provide support for a variety of quality assurance administrative tasks. In addition, making use of extensive lab and industry experience, the person in this position will also assist with areas such as new employee orientation, legal sample login, performance testing sample handling and other such duties.

    Responsibilities

    Specific Responsibilities:

     

    • Work with the location manager to implement all ALS safety and risk management policies in ALS Waterloo and associated depots;
    • Co-chair the Joint Health Safety and Environment Committee meetings and associated audits;
    • Provide orientation and ongoing Health and Safety training for staff;
    • Coordinate HSE training programs for all employees (WHIMS, TDG, First Aid etc.)
    • Ensure adequate First Aid management – supplies, reporting, resources and scheduling;
    • Incident management – investigation, reporting and follow up;
    • Co-operate with Injury Management personnel as necessary;
    • Follow up on monthly site safety inspections and actions;
    • Recommend corrective and preventative safety measures and appropriate safety equipment and materials to local management;
    • Lead risk analysis and hazard identification processes for both safety and environment;
    • Co-ordinate and maintain contractor management induction, insurance and documentation;
    • Maintain and update SDS records stored on site;
    • Maintain emergency response procedures including scheduling drills and inspections
    • Write procedures, policies and educational material for local safety program;
    • Conduct exposure monitoring programs and employee fit tests;
    • Co-ordinate with the lab areas, safety team members and contractors to classify and dispose of hazardous waste;
    • Provide orientation for new employees; 
    • Login of legal samples as necessary;
    • Provide administrative support to the Quality Department.

    Qualifications

    About You:

     

    The ideal candidate would have:

    • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field;
    • Minimum of 1 year experience in a Laboratory environment is required. More experience would be an asset.

     

    You would also have:

     

    • Excellent English communication skills required (auditory, verbal, written, and reading);
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), with competent computer skills;
    • Knowledge of ALS LIMS system
    • Strong organizational skills and follow-through on commitments and deadlines;
    • Ability to speak in public and present information to groups;
    • High attention to detail;
    • Work independently and as part of a team;
    • Strong work ethic and willingness to take on varied tasks as required;
    • Commitment to excellence.
