Reports to: Organics Instrumentation Supervisor or Team Lead
About the Position:
The Laboratory Analyst will work independently and as part of a team to accomplish a variety of lab tasks, including analyses, lab maintenance, and generating data.
Analysis of volatile parameters using headspace GCMS and/or thermal desorption GCMS. Acquisition and calculations are performed using GCMS Chemstation, Target, and ChromPerfect softwares;
Daily tasks will include GC maintenance and basic troubleshooting;
Extractions in the lab, as needed;
Work-scheduling for a particular instrument or analytical method – includes the use of Webview;
Prepare all required reagents, standards, reference materials, etc.;
Carry out all required data processing (i.e. calculations, data review, data entry, archival, etc. Including the use of ALSTools and Seedpak);
Perform all required quality control procedures;
Carry out all required record-keeping & documentation;
Communicate with the Client Services staff as required;
Deliver accurate results to our clients in a timely manner;
Technical decision making for non-routine, complex analyses or matrices;
Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and adhere to strict QA/QC requirements;
Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
Other duties as assigned.
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs./14 kg on a regular basis and carry for short distances;
Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
Ability to climb stairs;
Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required.
Ability to stand for up to a full shift;
Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;
You may be exposed to unpleasant fumes;
Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
The ideal candidate would have:
Completion of B.Sc. or Technical Diploma in Chemistry or a related discipline (required);
2-3 years’ experience in an analytical laboratory (required);
Minimum 1 year previous experience with GC, GCMS, ICP, and ICP-MS instrumentation (required).
