    Reports to: Director, Human Resources, Canada & USA Minerals

    Position Type: 14 Month Contract (November 2018 to December 2019)

    About the Position

    ALS is one of the world’s largest and most diversified testing services providers. We thrive in a results oriented production environment. In this unique Human Resources Business Partner role, we are seeking a dynamic individual to join our innovative HR team.

    As a Human Resources Business Partner, you will be the main point of contact for all Human Resource support for your client groups. Your main focus will be Recruitment, Employee Relations, Performance Management, Compensation, Organizational and Leadership Development.

    Responsibilities

    Specific Responsibilities

    • Work with the Corporate Human Resource team to determine HR strategy and strategic initiatives;
    • Provide human resource advice and consultation to employees and management;
    • Coach and counsel employees and management in the area of employment law, performance management, conflict management and resolution in accordance with company policies;
    • Work with local management to develop and maintain a culture of open and honest dialogue;
    • Manage the recruitment process for the locations and assist with recruiting at other branches when necessary;
    • Participate in creating and delivering corporate training on policies and procedures in the areas of staffing, compliance, employee relations and recruitment & selection;
    • Proactively identify HR related training/knowledge needs of client groups and deliver training accordingly;
    • Ensure compliance with provincial and federal laws and regulations relating to employment standards, human rights, privacy legislation and employment equity;
    • Investigate and resolve employee complaints and concerns;
    • Advise and educate employees regarding company programs, benefits and policies;
    • Assist in organizing employee events, employee communications and HR intranet content;
    • Ensure that all Human Resource forms, policies, procedures and manuals etc. are up-to-date;
    • Perform exit interviews and track results;
    • Travel as required in order to provide HR support to the ALS laboratories in Western Canada;
    • Assist with other Human Resource projects when necessary;
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Requirements

    • Completion of a university degree and/or college level Human Resources Management program or equivalent is required;
    • 3-5 years of experience in Human Resources in a Generalist/Business Partner capacity;
    • Experience working with unions or in unionized environment an asset;
    • CHRP or working towards CHRP designation preferred;
    • Ability to communicate via telephone and e-mail without assistance;
    • Ability to travel without assistance.
