    Location: ALS Environmental, Thunder Bay

    Shift:  Tuesday- Saturday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

    Classification: AN0

    About the PositionReporting to the Supervisor, the Lab Analyst is responsible for preparing and processing environmental samples for extraction including maintaining adequate production, quality control and turnaround times.

    Responsibilities

    Specific Responsibilities:

    • Conduct preparation of samples following documented specific methods;
    • Perform required sample processing (e.g. screening, homogenization, sub-sampling, etc.);
    • Prepare all required reagents etc.;
    • Maintaining clean workspace (ie. Glassware, waste disposal, sample organization and distribution);
    • Carry out all required record-keeping & documentation;
    • Perform all required quality control procedures;

    Qualifications

    Physical Demands:

    • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs./14 kg on a regular basis and carry for short distances;
    • Ability to sit or stand for a full shift;
    • Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
    • You will be exposed to unpleasant odours;
    • Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required.
    • Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and may require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.

     

    About You:

     

    The ideal candidate would have:

    • Post-secondary diploma/degree in chemistry or related field an asset.
    • Laboratory Experience.

    You would also be:

    • Capable of working with minimal supervision;
    • Well organised, and able to work independently as well as part of a team;
    • Ability to work in a fast paced environment;
    • Strong attention to detail;
    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to understand and carry out detailed instructions;
    • Intermediate experience with Excel and Microsoft Word would be an asset.
