    Location: ALS Geochemistry, North Vancouver


    Reports to: Facilities Manager


    General Accountability:

    This role will consist primarily of performing repairs and maintenance to the building and property, and the maintenance of mechanical equipment under supervision.



    Specific Responsibilities:

      • Assist trades and contractors;
      • Assist senior facilities staff with maintenance work as required;
      • Property maintenance including dumping garbage and maintaining both indoor and outdoor areas as required;
      • Operate a forklift to dump garbage, move pallets, etc.;
      • Purchase and transport of building materials and maintenance supplies;
      • Perform maintenance on lab equipment i.e. changing air and water filters, cleaning scrubber nozzles, and greasing bearings;
      • Ability to complete minor unsupervised building repairs such as painting, carpentry, basic plumbing etc.;
      • Ability to complete supervised mechanical work such as change belts, bearings, shafts and basic equipment repairs, etc.;
      • Assists with maintaining all log books and maintenance records/schedules;
      • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
      • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
      • Other dutues as assigned


    Physical Demands:


    • Ability to sit and/or stand for up to 7.5 hours per shift;
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds;
    • Extensive walking or movement, bending, kneeling, and working with equipment/machines;
    • Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves, etc., when required;
    • Ability to work in small areas and at various heights;
    • Comfortable in environments with high noise levels;
    • Manual dexterity to perform intricate or repetitive tasks;
    • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required;
    • Available for emergency on-call basis 24/7.


    About You:


    The ideal candidate would have:

    •  Experience with building/mechanical/equipment repairs and maintenance. Relevant formal training or trade certification from a technical institution an asset.

    • Valid Provincial Class 5 driver’s license;

    • Forklift certificate or experience will be considered an asset (full training will be provided);

    You would also be:

    • Good verbal and written communication skills;
    • Ability to read technical manuals and follow instructions;
    • Ability to work under pressure, handle multiple tasks, and meet deadlines;
    • Organizational and problem-solving skills;
    • Ability to work as part of a team and with minimal supervision;
    • Safety-oriented;
    • Comfortable operating a computer and doing clerical work.
