    Location: ALS Geochemistry, North Vancouver

    Reports to: Electronics Maintenance Manager

    Position Type: Full-Time

    About the Position:

    Working as part of the Instrumentation Maintenance team and under the supervision of the technicians and Manager, the Assistant Electronics Maintenance Technician will be responsible for assisting the team with repairs, maintenance, testing and calibration of all laboratory equipment and instrumentation. He/she will also provide support for the development and builds of new parts and systems; fabricate, assemble and built components, parts and devices.

    Responsibilities

    Specific Responsibilities:

    • Assist with and complete repairs on analytical laboratory equipment;
    • Assist with and carry out routine preventive maintenance;
    • Help the team with part management, organization and job request keeping;
    • Support the team with diagnostic, testing and repairs of auxiliary systems;
    • Calibration, adjustments, specific measurements and data logging as requested or required by service manuals;
    • Electronic/electrical assembly and fabrication of custom equipment and tools (electrical/electronic control panels and boxes, including panel preparations, wiring, soldering, wire termination, component placement, testing, prepare diagrams and drawings, etc.);
    • Mechanical assembly of laboratory equipment (fastening parts together, rivet plastic or metal parts, cut/drill panels and plates, etc.);
    • Assist the team with repairs or manipulation with supporting system like cooling, gas supply, pneumatic and hydraulic systems;
    • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
    • Other duties as assigned by the Manager.

    Qualifications

    Physical Demands:

    • Ability to stand for a full shift;
    • Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;
    • Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks;
    • Ability to lift up to 20lbs and carry for short distances;
    • Ability to work evenings and weekends;
    • Must be available for emergency on-call basis 24/7.

     

    About You:

     

    The ideal candidate would have:

    • High school graduation required;
    • Post-secondary education in electrical/electronics field an asset;
    • Experience in designing, installing, testing, and troubleshooting electrical systems an asset;

    You would also be:

    • An aptitude for mechanical and electrical systems;
    • Ability to read technical manuals and schematics;
    • Ability to follow through and complete assigned duties according to deadlines;
    • Excellent command of the English language, strong verbal and written communication skills;
    • Strong customer service orientation and interpersonal skills;
    • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills;
    • Strong time management and organizational skills;
    • Self-starter, must be proactive and possess ability to work independently;
    • Excellent computer skills including MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook;
    • Ability to effectively handle escalations and time critical issues;
    • Safety oriented.
